The pilgrimage embodies humanity’s perpetual desire to journey to the sacred. Phoenix opens the 2011-2012 season with an unusual and thoughtful programme, including music from the remarkable 14th c. Llibre Vermell manuscript, two medieval pilgrim prayers evocatively set by contemporary British composer Jonathan Dove, The Long Road by the young Latvian superstar Eriks Esenvalds, strikingly beautiful compositions by Dubra, Miskinis, Nystedt, Schmidt and Whitbourne, and the world première of Miles Ramsay’s arrangement of Walk in Jerusalem.
