Let the Peoples Sing

As a result of the European Broadcasting Union’s Let the Peoples Sing international competition on October 14, Phoenix can proudly state that it is one of the four best amateur choirs in the world! No small feat, especially since we were the only North American choir among 24 countries to make it into the finals.

We would especially like to thank all our supporters who came out to the CBC Building on Sunday morning to cheer us on as we went live-to-air to Europe. It was a momentous occasion for Phoenix (in a nail-biting kind of way!) – and your enthusiasm and love were palpable in the studio. We felt honoured to have had so many devoted friends there to share our 10 minutes of limelight on the world stage.

  • Young Composers 2007 images from the night of premières, March 31, 2007.

    The Phoenix Chamber Choir has established a Young Choral Composers Development Program, funded in part by the Leon and Thea Koerner Foundation. This multi-faceted project provides highschool and college/university students a hands-on opportunity to learn about all elements of choral writing, including contempoary techniques, textures and notation. The participants, engaged with the choir at all stages of the composition process, have their pieces sung, discussed and recorded in a workshop situation. Several compositions are then chosen to be premiered at a Phoenix concert. 4 such works were performed on March 31, 2007, the final concert of the 2006-2007 season.
